When is Merit Badge Time?
Every morning, each Scout has the option to pick which merit badges, older Scout programs, or other advancement activities they would like to do. The morning is split into 3 different sessions, allowing one Scout to pick up to three merit badges to take during the mornings. Some merit badges, such as Lifesaving, have too much content to fit into one merit badge session, causing them to take up multiple sessions.
Besides morning merit badges, Many Point also offers two other options for taking merit badges. If a majority of your unit is interested in taking a merit badge together, you can sign up for a select set of merit badges to take during afternoon Unit Activity time. Otherwise, Scouts can also choose to work on a merit badge during the evening free time. We have a list of select merit badges that are only offered in this manner, but Scouts can also work on finishing up a partial for any merit badge we offer this way.
How To Sign Up
Check out the Planning for Camp page to see when merit badge sign-up opens, and the Scouting Event How-To page to see how to actually sign up your troop's Scouts for merit badges and older Scout programs.
Check out the Unit Activity page for how to sign up your troop for merit badges during Unit Activity time.
Scouts can talk to any staff member while at camp to figure out who teaches the evening free time merit badges. They will then be able to talk with that counselor to organize times to work on the merit badge.
Most merit badges need very few extra materials, and thus are included as part of the regular camp fee. However, some programs do require consumable materials that cannot be re-used after each Scout. In order to keep the camp fee as low as we can, we split out some programs' fees and charge only those who sign up for those merit badges. Here are the badges with a separate fee:
- Archery: $5
- Leatherwork/Basketry (both merit badges are combined into one class): $24.50 for both
- Shotgun: $25
- Rifle: $5
- Wood Carving: $5
